Finding an inmate in Tarrant County may be a bit more complicated than searching in many other Texas counties. That’s because several cities have their own jails and maintain their own records.

If you search Tarrant County and can’t locate someone, you may need to narrow your search to specific cities, including Mansfield, Arlington, and Keller. Some municipal arrestees are quickly transferred to county custody, so searching multiple locations may be necessary.

Official county and city jail databases are free. If a website demands a fee, you’re not at the official county/city site. All of the sources listed below are free.

Tarrant County operates five jail facilities with a combined capacity of approximately 5,000 inmates. Texas is transitioning from VINELink to the Texas Integrated Victim Services System (IVSS). This is a newer statewide platform designed to provide custody status updates and notifications.

IVSS allows users to:

Track whether someone is in custody
Receive alerts for release, transfer, or status changes

What This Means in Tarrant County

The transition is ongoing, and availability may vary depending on the agency and system involved.

  • Some jurisdictions are using IVSS, though availability and contact options may vary
  • Others may still rely on VINELink; (877) 894-8463

Due to this transition, you may need to check both platforms.

Not all systems are updated at the same speed, and VINELink and IVSS may not include all local jail bookings immediately.

Best Way to Check Inmate Status in Fort Worth

For the most accurate results:

  1. Start with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office inmate search
  2. If a municipal police department was involved, check directly with the municipality
  3. Use IVSS if available
  4. Check VINELink as a backup

Note that recent arrests may not appear in search systems for several hours. Be sure to leave time to account for delays, transfers, or system gaps.

If you still cannot locate someone after checking all systems, contact our team at Michael & Associates

Jail Phone Scam in the Fort Worth, TX, area

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be an officer with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office who has one of your family members in custody, please use caution. It’s probably not legitimate.

A common scam involves receiving a phone call from “Tarrant County Jail.” The caller will tell you that your family member is accused of causing a car crash and that they are in jail and need bail. The caller may even try to pose as a family member.

If anyone from the “jail” demands immediate payment (particularly by gift card, ApplePay, MoneyPak, or a wire transfer), do not pay. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office will never demand immediate payment. End the call and check the jail database to confirm that your family member is actually in police custody.
