Nashville crime data shows that over 39,000 crimes occur per year in the city limits. If you're facing charges, you're not alone. But you're innocent unless proven guilty, and now is the time to fight back. Speak with an experienced attorney as soon as possible after an arrest.
At Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys, our team defends a wide range of these charges across Davidson County and Middle Tennessee, including:
DUI Defense
A DUI conviction in Tennessee can mean jail time, driver's license suspension, costly fines, and a lifelong criminal record. Our DUI scientists know how to challenge the results of blood and breathalyzer tests, and our team includes lawyers with experience as law enforcement officers, helping us leverage incorrect police procedures to fight for a dismissal or reduction of charges.
Assault & Domestic Violence
From bar fights to family disagreements, assault charges carry serious legal and personal consequences. We defend clients against misdemeanor and felony assault allegations, including cases involving domestic partners and family members.
Shoplifting & Theft
Tennessee strengthened its organized retail crime law in 2026, allowing prosecutors to combine certain qualifying thefts committed with others over a 180-day period when the aggregate value exceeds $1,000. Even a minor theft conviction will damage your record and reputation. We defend against charges ranging from shoplifting to grand theft, aiming to protect your freedom and keep your record clean.
Drug Possession & Marijuana Crimes
Tennessee takes a tough stance on drug offenses. We represent clients accused of possessing controlled substances, including marijuana, and fight to reduce penalties or secure alternative sentencing options.
Weapons Charges
From unlawful possession to carrying a firearm while committing another crime, weapons charges can have severe prison terms. We challenge the evidence and protect your constitutional rights.
Orders of Protection
A protective order can affect your ability to see your children, return to your own home, or possess firearms. We aggressively challenge unfounded orders to protect your rights.
Expungement
Tennessee expanded expungement eligibility on July 1, 2026. Under the Recovery Court Renewal Act, certain people who successfully complete a certified recovery court program may qualify to expunge an otherwise eligible offense despite having a single prior DUI conviction. The eligible offense must have occurred at least 10 years after the DUI conviction, and the DUI itself cannot be expunged.
Don't let a past arrest or conviction follow you for years and limit job and housing opportunities. Our Nashville expungement lawyers help clear eligible records so you can get back on track with a clean slate.
Updated in September 2026 to include changes to Tennessee state laws.
