We understand that this is a stressful time for you, but we’ve carefully curated our team and approach at Michael & Associates to minimize that stress and get you the best outcome possible.
Here is a bit about our firm and what makes us different.
No baby lawyers. Only seasoned defense attorneys with a track record of excellence.
You won’t find a single junior attorney at Michael & Associates. In our opinion, your future is too important to risk with anybody who hasn’t proven themselves in the courtroom.
Our lawyers have a combined 425 years of experience practicing law — an average of 15 years each.
Many firms will push most of the work onto junior associates fresh out of law school. Or they will assign a case’s “unimportant” parts to these baby lawyers — like drafting motions or appearing in court. But not at Michael & Associates. We believe that every single part of your case should be handled by a senior attorney with a track record of success.
Years of experience aren’t our only focus when hiring. We have an extremely high bar for all attorneys we bring into the firm. According to our data, we hire 2.6% of attorney applicants. It’s literally harder to get a job at Michael & Associates than it is to get into Harvard.
Our interview process is rigorous. We devote many hours to each candidate.
- We require them to go into meticulous detail about every step of their career, from high school to the current day. Throughout this process, we are looking for a history of excellence.
- Then, we put candidates through a gauntlet of questions from other lawyers to assess core competencies and legal prowess.
- We scan public records for case results, reviews, past disciplinary action, case results and career history.
- Finally, we do a reference interview with every past boss they have ever had. It doesn’t matter if the job was 20 years ago — we will still require a reference check. We also do backdoor references, talking to former colleagues, prosecutors, and judges with whom the lawyer has interacted.
Our goal through this process is to hire the top 10% of defense attorneys in the state.
Rest assured — when Michael & Associates represents you, you are getting a high caliber of representation.
We take a team-focused approach
We believe a team approach to defense gets the best results.
Your case will have a lead trial attorney as your main point of contact. You will see that attorney at every court appearance.
But behind the scenes, you’ll have 25 seasoned trial attorneys working together to beat your charges.
No single lawyer — even the best and most experienced — has seen everything. But when you combine 25 veteran defense attorneys who bring a multitude of perspectives, you have access to a wealth of knowledge unlike any other. Every day, the entire firm meets to collaborate on case strategies.
Think about it. Who would you rather have fighting your case? A single lawyer, or a team of defense attorneys, former judges, prosecutors, DWI scientists, former magistrates, former DPS prosecutors, board-certified criminal law specialists, and even FBI agents?
To us, the answer is clear: teamwork gets better results.
We are never afraid to go to trial (and we don’t charge for it)
We will never be afraid to go to trial. Because prosecutors know this, we are more likely to achieve great results without a trial.
But if we can’t get a result you are happy with, we are always ready to go to trial for you. Our lawyers have handled countless trials from all perspectives — as defense attorneys, judges, and prosecutors.
When we do go to trial, we spend an average of over a hundred hours preparing for it. Not just one lawyer — we will assemble a trial team to examine every piece of evidence, select expert witnesses, research the opposition, and carefully craft our trial strategy.
And the best part — you won’t pay extra trial fees. Most firms charge hefty trial fees because preparing for a trial is a lot of work.
However, we never want you to have to make money a deciding factor when given the choice between a chance at trial or taking a plea deal.
We’re committed to communication
This is likely the most stressful time of your life. It’s our job to not only get you the best result possible, but also to give you peace of mind.
If you read the one-star Google reviews from our competitors (we don’t have any one-star Google reviews as of this writing), the number one complaint is communication. Clients can’t get calls returned and feel left in the dark.
Therefore, we place a huge emphasis on client communication. Our promise to you is:
- We respond to text messages right away. On average, this is only a few minutes.
- If you want to speak to your lawyer, they are required to call you back same business day (or following day if received after hours)
- We will proactively prep you for every court date on what to expect
- If you are not present in court, we will give you an update on what happened
- We will give you proactive updates on your case, even if nothing has happened
We have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in communication infrastructure, and have an enormous support team to make this happen. But we think this is well worth your peace of mind.
