Daniel Gutierrez is a San Antonio criminal defense attorney and Trial Attorney at Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys. A San Antonio native, Daniel is deeply committed to serving and protecting the community he has called home his entire life. His unique professional background includes military service, criminal prosecution experience, and courtroom advocacy, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system from multiple perspectives.
Daniel began his professional career at age 18 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his five years of military service, he worked as an Air Traffic Controller, a position that demanded precision, discipline, accountability, and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure. He also served as a Non-Commissioned Officer and Training Coordinator, developing leadership skills that continue to influence his approach to client representation and case preparation.
Following his honorable military service, Mr. Gutierrez returned to San Antonio and utilized his GI Bill benefits to pursue higher education. Demonstrating exceptional dedication and work ethic, he completed his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in just 2.5 years.
After briefly working in corporate accounting, he decided to pursue a legal career and completed law school in another two and a half years.
Before joining Michael & Associates in June 2026, Mr. Gutierrez spent more than seven years with the Bexar County District Attorney's Office, serving as an Assistant District Attorney and prosecuting a wide range of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases. His prosecutorial experience provided extensive courtroom exposure and firsthand knowledge of how criminal cases are investigated, charged, negotiated, and tried. He also served as an intern in the 437th Criminal District Court, worked as a legal intern with the Bexar County District Attorney's Office, completed an internship with the United States Attorney's Office, and served as a summer legal intern for the City Attorney's Office of San Antonio.
In addition to his practical legal experience, Daniel served as a Research Fellow for the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Mary's University School of Law, where he conducted legal research and analysis involving complex criminal and national security issues.
Today, Daniel focuses exclusively on criminal defense, representing individuals accused of DWI, assault, domestic violence offenses, drug crimes, theft offenses, weapons charges, probation violations, and other misdemeanor and felony offenses throughout Bexar County and South Texas. Drawing on his background as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, he helps clients understand the strengths and weaknesses of the government's case while developing strategic defenses designed to protect their rights, freedoms, and futures.
Clients benefit from Daniel's rare combination of military discipline, prosecutorial insight, and local courtroom experience. His deep roots in San Antonio, commitment to public service, and extensive knowledge of the local criminal justice system make him a strong advocate for individuals facing criminal charges throughout the region.
