Janie Martin is a Dallas criminal defense attorney with more than 18 years of experience defending clients charged with serious felony offenses in Dallas County. In September 2025, she joined Michael & Associates as a Senior Trial Attorney, bringing extensive courtroom experience to clients throughout Dallas and North Texas facing felony and misdemeanor criminal charges.
Prior to joining the firm, Janie held a supervisory leadership position overseeing a team of felony criminal defense trial attorneys, providing mentorship, case strategy, and guidance in complex criminal matters. In addition to leading other attorneys, she maintained her own demanding caseload of high-stakes felony cases. A former prosecutor and Veterans Treatment Court Defense Counsel, she offers clients the advantage of broad courtroom experience and a well-rounded understanding of the criminal justice system.
The Dallas County Commissioners Court recognized Janie with a formal resolution for High Performance Leadership and Outstanding Performance. She also earned a High Performance Leadership Certification from NACo and the Professional Leadership Academy and was named a 2025 "Who's Who in America" honoree.
Janie is currently completing the rigorous requirements for the ACS-CHAL Forensic Lawyer-Scientist Designation through the American Chemical Society, with expected completion in October 2026. The program provides advanced education in forensic chemistry, toxicology, laboratory quality systems, and the scientific principles underlying criminal evidence. This training enhances her ability to evaluate forensic evidence, identify weaknesses in the State's scientific case, and effectively challenge expert testimony in complex criminal prosecutions.
Few Dallas criminal defense attorneys combine over two decades of felony litigation experience with service as both a prosecutor and supervising defense attorney. Janie has represented clients charged with serious felony offenses throughout Dallas County, handling thousands of criminal cases involving DWI, assault, theft, drug offenses, and other serious criminal charges. These cases often involve complex investigations, plea negotiations, evidentiary challenges, and high-stakes litigation. Her experience provides valuable insight into how felony cases are investigated, prosecuted, negotiated, and tried before Texas juries, allowing her to anticipate prosecutorial strategies and develop defenses tailored to each client's circumstances.
