Visiting an inmate at the Bexar County Jail isn’t difficult, but does require some advance planning. You will have to schedule an appointment at least 72 hours in advance, arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit, and follow a strict dress code.
Personal items are restricted during the visit. They must be stored in a locker that costs $1.25, and you must pay with five quarters. And visits are monitored and recorded, so don’t discuss anything that could be used against the inmate in court.
Visitors who violate the rules, or who appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, may have their visits canceled. Repeat offenders could be permanently banned.
Video Visitation
Friends and family members can schedule video visits through IC Solutions. You must first register for the platform. However, it is not compatible with Apple (iOS) products or Chromebooks. Windows is required. For help getting set up, contact 888-646-9437.
These remote visits allow anyone with internet access to be able to connect with inmates, regardless of the work or visitation schedule. It can also save you the transportation time and costs of getting to the jail. However, these visits will still be monitored and recorded. Don’t discuss the case. Don’t say anything during the visit that could be considered incriminating in court.
You can use your phone, tablet, or computer to chat. The inmate has access to portals within the jail. Appointments must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance.
You will have to pay a fee for these visits, but the county does not specify how much they cost. For information, please contact 210-335-8270.
In-Person Visits
The Bexar County Jail is located in downtown San Antonio, at 200 N Comal St.
In person visits must be scheduled in advance. You can use the same platform to schedule both in-person and virtual visits. Visits last 20 minutes and you must check in at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit. If you’re late, your visit may be canceled.
Visitors are allowed one visit per week, Tuesday through Saturday. There are no visits permitted on Mondays or most Sundays.
- Tuesday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 8:00 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Sunday: Closed, except on Easter Sunday, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day, when hours are 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Dress Code
This is open to interpretation, so don’t take any risks. If you’re unsure whether an article of clothing might be considered “revealing” or “tight,” don’t wear it.
The following items are prohibited:
- Clothing or other items displaying gang-related symbols, themes or colors
- Clothing with vulgar or objectionable images or language
- Torn jeans with exposed skin above the knee
- Bandanas
- Sunglasses
- Pajamas or slippers
- Transparent clothing
- Tank tops
- Sleeveless tops
- Shirts/blouses with low necklines
- Shirts/blouses that expose the midriff
- Clothing that exposes the chest area, genitals, or buttocks
- Skirts, dresses, or shorts more than 3” above the center of the knee
Anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will have their visit canceled.
Visits will also be canceled if a visitor is disruptive.
Prohibited Items
If you bring firearms, explosives, alcoholic beverages, narcotics, or any controlled substances (including marijuana), you could be arrested.
If you’re caught with any of these items, you may be banned from visiting:
- Cameras
- Tape recorders
- Purses or handbags
- Diaper bags
- Shopping bags
- Backpacks
- Briefcases
- Cell phones
- Electronic devices
- Tobacco products or smoking paraphernalia
- Food or drink
Lockers are available to store your items. However, they cost $1.25. You must have five quarters for the locker.
Penalties for Rule Violations
Don’t violate the rules. While it may not seem like a big deal to you if you’re wearing torn jeans or a tank top, many jail staffers take your attire and behavior very seriously and you may face a temporary visitation ban if your outfit or behavior is flagged for any reason.
- First violation: Visitation rights could be suspended for a minimum of 30 days
- Repeat offenders: A repeat offender will have visitation suspended for a longer period of time, or face a permanent ban.
