If you’re looking for an inmate in Bexar County – or you’re trying to determine whether someone you know has been arrested and/or charged with a crime in the San Antonio area – searching is relatively simple.
In Bexar County, all you need is the person’s name and access to a phone or the internet.
How Can I Find Someone Recently Arrested in Bexar County?
San Antonio makes searching for an inmate much more straightforward than some of Texas’ other large counties.
Online
The easiest way to find an inmate in the San Antonio area is to check the Bexar County Central Magisterial Search website: https://centralmagistrate.bexar.org/.
There, you will find an alphabetical list of everyone who has been taken into custody over the past 24 hours. If you click on each name, you will find their relevant personal information and intake date. After that, it will list the charges they face, any bond amount, and whether bond has been posted. The case number will also be included. The charges will look like this:
If you’re looking for an arrest that was more than 24 hours ago, you can view seven days’ worth of jail activity reports at https://www.bexar.org/722/Jail-Activity-Reports.
By Phone
You can also call the Bexar County Detention Center at (210) 335-6201. There may be a wait time, so this won’t be as efficient as checking online, but it is an option if you don’t currently have access to the internet. You’ll need to provide the inmate’s full name and date of birth. It’s possible that you will be asked to provide a Suspect Identification Number. If so, you can obtain this by calling:
- Misdemeanor records: Call Central Filing at 210-335-2238
- Felony records: Call the District Clerk at 210-335-2591
In Person
If you’re searching for an inmate in person, you can visit the Bexar County Adult Detention Center at 200 North Comal Street. The lobby is open 24/7.
You will need to provide the inmate’s full name and date of birth.
State Jail Search
If you can’t locate an inmate through the Bexar County arrest records, it’s possible that they’re being held in state jail. State jails are administered by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), which maintains its own database at https://inmate.tdcj.texas.gov/.
Finding an Inmate in Other Jurisdictions
Bexar County has a capacity of 5,075 inmates. Unfortunately, the county is often near capacity. When that happens, some inmates may be housed in Burnet or Kerr County jails. However, newly arrested people should not be transferred.
Inmates held outside of Bexar County are supposed to be “paper ready,” meaning they have been convicted and are waiting to be transported to prison by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
However, if you can’t locate an inmate in Bexar County, it’s possible that they were arrested in another county. If you want to check,
